The Story of Swing Dance

"Swing dance" is a group of dances that evolved with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s, '30s and '40s. The best known of these dances is the Lindy Hop, a popular partner dance that originated in Harlem and is still danced today.

In the glory days of New York's 19020s/30s Harlem, as well as local New Yorkers, people travelled from all over the world for an evening of music and swingin' entertainment in New York's best Jazz clubs. Clubs such as the Cotton Club, The Savoy and The Apollo Theatre became synonymous with weekly dance competitions, the best jazz musicians in the world, review shows going on ‘til the small hours and dancers who entertained crowds with synchronised ensemble lindy and amazing airsteps.

Attic Cats aim to bring the atmosphere of Harlem's hey-day to every performance.

Attic Cats Origins: Attic Cats was formed over 6 years ago by a group of friends who were passionate about swing dance. In recognition of our trusty, long-standing relationship with Dance Attic studios in Fulham, we decided to call ourselves the Attic Cats.
